Book It!

By on May 16, 2007

I maintain a bunch of links to other blogs on my sidebar. Someone coming here for the first time might assume that I just went out and gathered the top bloggers in the space and did reciprocal links to bump up the “authority” of my site, but that is not the case. I try to maintain a level of quality in the sites that I link to, as I believe they reflect on this site. After blogging for awhile now, I’ve settled on the belief that it is better to let others organically link to you that to try and affect others in any way – if your content is worthwhile, the links will start to show up (which I why I don’t post every day, I’d rather write 3 really good posts a month than 1 mediocre post per day).

The New Rules of Marketing & PRAll that said, I am always interested in seeing the sites I read and the people that write them be successful. A great example of that is David Meerman Scott at Web Ink Now. David just completed a new book entitled The New Rules of Marketing & PR. He drew on a bunch of sources, both on and offline to write this book, and based on his prior postings I know it will be a worthwhile read.

David’s also made a shrewd Marketing move in his promotion – he made a giant list of blogs he drew on for content, inspiration, and knowledge for his book. Product Beautiful is on that list, along with dozens of other blogs (enough link fodder to keep a reader busy for weeks). He’s sending all the people on that list an advance copy of his book (I got mine on Monday, thanks David!), and ensuring that a ton of blogs kick up a bunch of interest in the book with posts, just like this one. A masterstroke by someone who is truly in-tune with the online world.

I’ll do a full report when I read through the book, including the points I disagree with. Here is the full list of bloggers he cites, if you’re interested in blowing hours/days/weeks plowing through a ton of cool content. Note that many of these have a Marcom/PR slant, as that is David’s focus.
